Nikon Z 24-200mm f4-6.3 VR Lens

There is a very simple way to describe this lens. It's the best superzoom I've ever used. It's seriously sharp, edge to edge and corner to corner and it gives a lot of prime lenses a run for their money. Now it's big, it's heavy (Don't believe reviews that say it's light, it's not. OK it's lighter than many primes and other superzooms but you'll know you carried it around when you get home.) and it's bloody expensive, but Nikon have a brilliant, versatile lens for the Z system with this.

Now I thought long and hard before buying this. It IS pricey, but now I've had it for a few weeks I'm glad I did. It's great for stills and seriously good for video and saves carrying around a lot of lenses and having to change them all the time. Now the Z7 outfit I use is actually pretty chunky. I've got the battery grip attached and a smallrig video cage fitted around all of that. It does then feel like a professional camera even though it actually isn't. I, like a lot of others are waiting to see if Nikon do come up with a 'pro' mirrorless camera, so the Z7 II doesn't interest me at all. And I am very impressed by the Z7 sensor, which is great for what I do.

Now if want a comprehensive review of the lens I would recommend Ken Rockwell at https://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/z/24-200mm.htm. I like Ken, he still writes his reviews and hasn't gone down the YouTube route. (And regular readers will know exactly what I think of those plonkers!!)

So if you are serious about Nikon Mirrorless, as I am, then this lens could be just what you need if you work in good light most of the time. Nikon haven't compromised, which I guess explains the price and you won't be disappointed with the images that come up on your screen. Ok, you could pretend to be a 'pro' and go for prime lenses, but since every professional photographer I know uses lens like this anyway, you would be wasting your time and adding a lot of inconvenience to your picture taking. However, in the past using superzooms has always been a bit of a compromise, since while they are very useful some of the results haven't always been stellar. However this 24-200mm is a belter of a lens and I trust it to give me excellent results across the zoom range.
