LEICA SL (TYP 601) Video posts.

These days I only shoot the occasional video. When I bought my Panasonic Lumix GH5 I was planning to shoot more, i.e. stock video. But that plan is on hold since the kind of video I shoot isn't really that sellable. Plus I don't enjoy it much, which of course means I'm not that great at it and I don't have a drone or the patience for time lapse. So all in all the GH5 is wasted on me. I will get round to selling it soon.

Since buying the VARIO-ELMARIT-SL 24–90 f/2.8–4 ASPH. lens, my SL has become my best camera for stills (by some distance) and I wondered what it would be like for hand held video, since the zoom has IS built in. I've always loved the footage, but with no IS hand holding was difficult. And since the vast majority of my video is taken on my stock trips I have no intention of carrying a tripod around. The SL / 24-90mm combination is heavy enough as it is.

So I finally got round to testing it. See YouTube links above and here> https://youtu.be/kXRlfWyM-zc

As you can see, with a little help from the stabilisation setting in iMovie it's actually pretty impressive. I still love the quality of the footage so despite the weight of the camera and lens (which actually probably helps the stability) I have the option to shoot some 'wobble-free' video when out shooting with the SL.

And of course, as is usually the case, this will be completely ignored by the photographic internet. We can't possibly have Leica producing IS on a par with m4/3 or Sony now, can we?
