Sharp 8K m4/3 video camera - The future of m4/3?

Below 33MP screen grab from sample - 100% blow up below.

There is a prototype of a Sharp 8K m4/3 video camera being tested at a show in Las Vegas. It is far from finished, but there are some interesting pointers here. I did a screen grab of one of the 8K sample videos to see what the stills performance would be like. And even allowing that it's from a video file, it's actually pretty good. We've been stuck with a 20MP limit for m4/3 sensors for a while now, but since I upsize my m4/3 files to around the size of this sensor, I've always thought that m4/3 is capable of larger files. You just have to look at what smartphones can get from their tiny sensors to realise that.

It's always struck me that m4/3 is in an ideal position to take advantage of smartphone technology. There are all sorts of advantages to the format. The Olympus E-M1X shows that for high speed shooting with long lenses m4/3 can be seen as the ideal format. So, there is obviously more to be had from the 4/3 sensor and I just wonder when we will see it. Panasonic seem obsessed with FF currently and their release of the underwhelming G95 shows that they don't seem to be taking m4/3 seriously anymore. But the Sharp camera shows that there is more potential in this smaller sensor, if only companies are willing to work at it. Time will tell.
