Canon EOS R - This is not the video camera you've been told it is.

Following on from my previous posts -

The video above is yet another way to get stable 4K wide angle footage out of the EOS R's cropped 4K output and lack of IBIS. It was hand held using a (non stabilised) Sigma 8-16mm APS-C zoom. As you can see it's nice and steady, courtesy of the stabilisation option in iMovie and the footage itself is actually very nice.

Interestingly when the APS-C Sigma 8-16mm is fitted to the camera it doesn't automatically default to the 1.6x crop, which my Canon APS-C 10-18mm does. So it works 'full frame'. From 8-15mm it has way too much vignetting, but at 16mm it's fine.

Going back to the video - Imaging Resource’s Jaron Schneider in the video linked to at the top of the page makes lot's of good points. He basically has come to the same conclusion that I have about the video capabilities. No it's not perfect but it's certainly very usable and the most important bottom line for me is that the final video looks good, which is after all the most important bit.

Finally I particularly like Jaron's heading -

This is not the video camera you've been told it is

Couldn't have put it better myself.
