This was my response in the comments section:-
'Well yes I agree. I would since I've been writing the exact same thing for years. But then if you take away all the arguing about gear, what replaces it? Where are the places on the photographic internet that push the boundaries of photography? Certainly not on Ted Forbes, not here and not on my blog. It's almost like the photographic internet or social media aren't 'appropriate' places for photography as an art form. And camera manufacturers know that. And they also know that the vast majority of photographers / people who buy cameras don't actually have any burning ambition to be 'artists', they want to record their lives, their families, their friends. Or simply, just enjoy their camera gear and take pictures with it. And there isn't actually anything wrong with that.
I consider myself lucky that I've been making my living as a photographer for many years. And the reason I worked hard to get into that situation is because I enjoy photography and creating images so much, that I wanted to do it full time. So as well as it being my job, it is also my passion and that is what I try to convey when I write about it in my small way. And maybe that is the antidote to the aggression, rudeness and worse on the photographic internet. Maybe if we shared our joy of using cameras and lenses more and the pleasure we get from attempting and sometimes succeeding in creating worthwhile images then the world of photography on the internet would become a more positive place. Because after all, we do this because we enjoy it. Right?'
