Fuji X-E2 - 10-24mm and 56mm f/1.2 lenses. Better than Leica?


Quite a few of my favourite lenses of all time are made by Fuji and these are two of them. Note the top picture shot with the sun in the picture and no flaring. And no I haven't removed it in Photoshop, there wasn't any. I've only ever owned one other lens that did (or rather didn't) do this and that was a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 T* for the Contax film cameras I owned in the 1980's. The Fuji is the best wide-angle lens I've ever used, simply remarkable. It's pretty special as a object in it's own right as well. Beautifully designed and manufactured.

The 56mm f/1.2 is also another modern classic. The 2nd. shot down is at f/16 and it's pin sharp at that aperture. Plus again this lens is top class in terms of construction. Fuji are showing everybody a clean pair of heels as far as I can see with their lens range. They are optically superb, beautifully made and far from ridiculous prices. And I really don't care how well Zeiss Otus's and Sigma ART primes perform in DxO tests, these are the lenses I want to take pictures with. They ooze class in every mm. and Fuji have taken the best of the old and combined it with state of the art optical technology. For me Fuji are moving beyond Leica and from being pretty much a copycat of that illustrious brand they seem to be taking the small unobtrusive high-quality camera concept into new territory. Better viewfinders, better high ISO performance, better focusing and yes I'm going to write this, better lenses.

I'm sure there are those who don't agree and I'm far from a Leica critic, I've bought and used six of them and enjoyed the experience every time. However I get the feeling that in a few years time Leica users will pass photographers using Fuji cameras and the 'camera envy' may well be in the opposite direction to what it is now.
