Nikon Series E 28mm and 100mm lenses with Panasonic G6 and Fuji X-E1

Above - Fuji X-E1 - Nikon Series E 28mm and 100mm f/2.8 lenses

I've had a chance now to use the Nikon Series E 28mm f/2.8 and 100mm f/2.8 lenses on both my Fuji X-E1 and Panasonic G6 cameras, in a 'real world' shooting situation. One thing has become apparent from this and that results from the G6 and with the Metabones Speed Booster are particularly sharp. See the images below.

Top two are the 28mm, bottom two are the 100mm. Processed from raw with Iridient Developer.

Even more impressive is that these are shot with the lenses wide open or close to it.

In a photographic market that sees crazy prices for much hyped but pretty mediocre lenses, its difficult to understand why the Series E lenses were somewhat unenthusiastically received when they were released, if what I read is correct, and why they are so cheap now. I received the 36-72mm f/3.5 zoom I bought on ebay for £35 yesterday, and while not up to the quality of the primes, it is another excellent lens (and a real oddball - see next post), and once again in close to mint condition. I am thinking about trying to collect a whole set of these Series E lenses. There are a couple of telephoto zooms and a 35mm and 135mm plus the four I have already in the 'set'. Certainly if I see them at good prices I will be very tempted.

Apart from anything else, with their small size they complement mirrorless cameras very well. I took the Fuji and two lenses for the two pictures at the top of the post and carried the whole outfit on my bicycle. Very nice small, light outfit.
