Using my NEX-7 with these two Nikon fit Voigtlander manual focus SLR lenses, Voigtlander 20/3.5 Color Skopar SL II and 90/3.5 Apo-Lanthar SL II, gives a real classy "old school" feel. These lenses are so little known, yet are so well-built with superb image rendition.
Everybody goes on about m-mount lenses but these are just as good. No speed kings, but in terms of the sheer pleasure of using them two of the best lenses I've ever owned. I keep thinking about buying the set (See link here) and I may well get the other three at some point.
Even on a freezing cold day with my fingers almost numb, I was able to focus them accurately with the peaking feature in the NEX-7. Yesterday was one of those days when I was shooting with a smile on my face, as I was enjoying using the camera / lens combination so much.
Though I get seduced by other bright shiny objects (my precious!!), I keep coming back to the NEX-7, and everytime I do I wonder why I bother with anything else. Again the NEX-7 is a "classy" camera. I've grown to love the unfussy, functional look and the two Voigtlanders complement this brilliantly. Everyone goes on about other "lookaleicas" but this is the closest I get to using a Leica in terms of handling and the manual focusing on this camera is the easiest and best I've ever used, so in many ways its a nicer experience.
I like this branch of the NEX system so much that I've just bought a NEX-6 with the 16-50mm lens. It is very similar to the 7 and has that same "sturdy" feel in the hand.
Other cameras may come and go, and flatter to decieve, but I really like these sleek black mettallic NEX-7 and NEX-6 cameras. I loved the NEX- 5n for what was inside it, but wasn't sure about the shape and handling and while the external EVF was great quality, I much prefer the built-in version on the NEX-6. Someone described the NEX-6 as the perfect combination of a NEX-5n in a NEX-7 body. I'll let you know if I agree when I've used it.
Finally I would mention that the NEX-5n was my camera of the year for 2011 and I'm getting close to announcing this years "winner". (I'm sure you are all on the edges of your seats!!) Will Nikon or Olympus triumph this year? or will Sony make it two in a row? Almost as exciting as the BBC Sports Personality of the year. Go Wiggo!!
