I thought it was about time that I finished my review of the Olympus 75mm f/1.8. You'll be unsuprised to learn, that in common with just about every other review, I think its a great lens. It fits in very nicely with the 12mm f/2 and 45mm f/1.8 to provide a set of excellent primes for m4/3. The addition of the upcoming 17mm f1/.8 will also be very welcome.
The 75mm is a beautifully made lens with excellent optical quality which means you can really tell the difference when you use it. The Panasonic 12-35mm takes a huge amount of pixel peeping to actually see the diference between it and other m4/3 standard zooms, but the 75mm doesn't have the same competition with the telephoto and "super" zooms m4/3 has available and its clearly significantly sharper than any of them.
Its a pleasure to use and it gives a real low light option. However, just used as an everyday telephoto lens it produces very high quality files. As you can see below, its sharpness across the frame is top class.
If you want test shots, charts etc. then there are plenty of those around on sites who do that sort of thing a lot better than me. But then I've never seen a bad word written about it. They may be less than positive reviews of the lens but I've never found one.
m4/3 now has some really good lenses available from both Olympus and Panasonic and this one might just be my favourite, because of its construction and handling. Plus just imagine the size and weight of a lens that provides the same angle of view on a 35mm sized sensor camera. Its not cheap, but then again think of the equivalents. It can't be easy to get this kind of quality in a fast lens and personally I have no problem with how much its priced at. The 45mm is a lot cheaper but though its a great lens it does feel totally different to the 75mm. None of that plasticity here. The 75mm is metallic and proud of it.
So - Looks good, feels good, takes great pictures, what more could you want?
