A
few shots with the 14mm f/2.5 which arrived as part of the GF3 kit.
This lens doesn't always get a good press, and I'm a little mystified as
to why not. This is my second copy, and its nice and sharp, even at
f/2.5 which is what I used for all these pictures. OK its a little
softer in the corners at wide apertures, but this is a wide-angle
pancake lens at a reasonable price, so I'm not sure what people expect. I
sell a lot of pictures taken with my previous copy, so I'm perfectly
happy with it.
Using it, the GX1 is very similar to the G3 in terms of performance. AF is fast and reliable, and it could be my imagination but I do think that there is less of a shutter lag than on previous G series cameras. Certainly the shutter feels very responsive.
Colour is certainly excellent. Bright, saturated, yet realistic. That "glossy" m4/3 look I'm always going on about.
I must say, I do like the viewfinder. As I predicted, it doesn't move in use, and outdoors its nice and bright and though I haven't got anything to compare it with, it does seem, from memory, virtually identical to the G series built-in EVF's. Which of course begs the question, why didn't Panasonic do this in the first place?
