Sony A77 30mm f/2.8 Macro lens
Yesterday I went out with the a77 and 30mm f/2.8 macro and 85mm f/2.8 SAM lenses. The same lenses I'd used the day before with my NEX-5n. Both performed very well, and the outfit was pretty much the lightest DSLR (DSLT) combination I've ever used.
Just to give an idea of the resolution of the a77 here is a huge blow up.
Note the clearly visible writing on the lighbulb and the red rectangle on the left which shows just how small this enlarged section is.
There are still critical articles about the a77, including some recent nonsense about it having "too many pixels". The people who write this stuff obviously have never been involved in selling their images. Try telling some of my clients my pictures have "too many pixels" or the other ridiculous phrase "You don't need more than x,y, or z (fill in the number you want) MP's" This usually means any of the following:- "This camera has a bigger sensor than mine" "I can't afford a camera with a bigger sensor" "I'm going to rubbish this bigger sensor because then mine will seem superior" or something similar. Pixel envy or denial is just as ridiculous as saying more pixels = better pictures. More MP's means higher resolution and more recognisable detail when an image is blown up. It doesn't mean that an image is sharper or has a higher quality but then neither does it mean that the image is inferior.
There have also been some other nonsensical statements, such as "The megapixel war is over" and I was particularly amused by Canons version of this when they announced the Canon 1DX. (By the way is it now obligatory for every camera to have X in the name?) They said something similar. However I don't remember them saying much when they had the highest number of MP's in one of their cameras. "Yes we have more MP's than Nikon, but obviously the D3, with its larger sized pixels, has an advantage over our cameras which are crammed to the limit with the things" is not something I remember reading!
So here's a few more images for all you "pixel challenged" photographers out there from my over-populated sensor, which of course I've only got so I can go "My cameras got more than yours, so there!!"
